2020 has been a very unusual year to say the least; we’ve had to make changes over all aspects of our lives in order to win the fight against COVID 19. Our big events had to be cancelled, all social gatherings and parties were limited to only a few people and we all had to change the way we celebrate life’s big milestones.
One such milestone that has recently been affected is the end of year formal. Unfortunately this means the long awaited event for all Yr12 and Yr6 students may be looking a little different this year. Don’t panic just yet, we have 3 simple decorating tips that will turn your school hall into an elegant space and the party can still go ahead in a COVID-safe kind of way.
Tinsel curtains are so versatile, with most measuring 90cm wide and 120cm in length they’re perfect to hang over a doorway to create a sparkly entrance for all students. But why stop there, hang Tinsel Curtains on a blank space and put a camera in front – boom an instant photo op.
It is possible to hang these singularly but we do recommend layering them up to create a thicker, lusher curtain – trust us it makes a difference. You can get extra creative and cut the different layers on angles to create a geometric design. We have these available in Silver, Gold, Black, Iridescent White, Rose Gold, Blue, Hot Pink, Lime Green, Orange, Red, Light Blue and Multi Colour.
If you do not need Tinsel curtains in this length be sure to check out our Tinsel Fringe Backdrops and our other Photo prop accessories here

Does your school have ugly chairs constantly stacked up against the wall or photos and plaques from 100 years ago, and even if you did take them down they’ve been there for that long the colour of the wall is all patchy and dirty – room rolls are the best for covering all this up. We have quite a few different themed scene setters but for a Formal you’re more than likely looking for something with a little more class. We recommend taking a look at these three designs, with all three measuring between 9 and 12m in length that’s a lot of coverage.

I know what you’re thinking “Table covers on the ceiling yeah right” but just you wait, it’s ingenious!!
Firstly find the centre point of the room; this is where you’ll want all the table covers to meet, kind of like a circus tent. Drape them so they have a big fall in the middle or section them so they look like a ‘w’. For a cheaper alternative you can use this same concept using either Crepe Paper Streamers or Tear Ribbon, in both we have a wide range of colour options
Online we sell Table covers in single packs measuring 2.7m in length and 1.3meters wide however if you live local to our store in Lambton you may be better off buying the 30m rolls (due to their size we can’t send these in the post).
Complete the look with fairly twinkle lights – have all your parents dig up their Christmas lights a little early (if you still don’t have enough Bunnings sell these year round). Hang these on the underneath of the table covers, it’s best to leave a little gap so the lights aren’t directly touching the covers. You can add some balloons or hanging lanterns from the anchor points to hide any tape or tacks.
With these three items, some handy helpers and their ladders along with some heavy duty tape or white tac you’ll have a formal party space up and ready in no time. This is just three items in a long list of decorations Shindigs has to offer, come and see us at Lambton and talk to our staff for more great ideas.
Don't forget we have a huge range of Napkins, disposable drinkware, Metal look Cutlery and Plates including our Eco friendly options. Not to mention our endless options of balloon arrangements and archways to help complete the look - call Shindigs on (02) 4950 9561 for all your balloon enquiries.
